Spring Training and Racing

After a several week hiatus, the Music City Super Squad is about to start up again!  While the winter training season had the group training for an indoor track meet, this season we will compete in several races around the Nashville area.  These races are not mandatory but serve as a fun way to become more involved in the local running community, increase racing experience and are an excellent way to get the family involved!

Similar to the winter training, we will offer an advanced and beginner group.

Advanced Group

The Advanced Group will meet on Wednesdays at the Hendersonville Library from 4:30-5:45 and Sundays at Moss Wright Park from 3:00-4:30, with the season lasting from March 8th-May 29th.

This group is for students with a prior running background.  In the past, we have had everything from experienced elementary runners through competitive high schoolers. It would be a great choice for runners who currently do not have a school team, as well as runners who are currently on team and are looking to supplement their training.

Wednesdays will usually serve as our fast workout day.   This could include intervals on the grass, hill repeats or broken up tempo runs.  These days will be anywhere from 4-6 miles long, depending on the athlete.

Sundays will serve as our long run day.  The long run is one of the most important types of runs for the developing runner.  As the most famed distance coach of all time, Arthur Lydiard stated, miles make champions!  You can expect your kids to cover anywhere from 5-10 miles on long days, with the mileage consisting of relaxed continuous running, progression runs or tempo intervals.

Advanced Group cost: One day weekly (12 practices): $50; Both days (24 practices): $100 with a 25% discount for any additional siblings

Beginner Group

The beginner group is for runners new to the sport of distance running.  Our goal is for your child to have a positive first experience to distance running.  We will do this through easy distance runs, loosely structured intervals, running games and runs through the woods that may also involve creek crossings.

Runners in the beginner group are also encouraged to participate in our scheduled races!

We will meet on Saturdays of non-racing weekends at Drakes Creek Park, from 3:00-4:00 (March 11th, March 18th, April 1st, April 8th, May 6th, May 13th,  and May 27th)

Beginner Group Cost: $35 with a 25% discount for any additional siblings

*Some of the more experienced beginners may be at a level where they could run also Wednesdays with the advanced group.  If your child is potentially interested, let me know*
